Postcard with interesting postmark HOLMSLEY CAMP B O, 28th Aug 1908
From James Baley, H(?) Company, Goatspen Camp, to his siblings in Northumberland. Says he is the one on the barrow at the far right of the photograph. Interesting use of the word "furlough", describing his forthcoming leave on 11th or 12th of September.
According to Wikipedia:- The word furlough was used until at least 1908 to describe military personnel home on leave.
Does anybody have any information on the Goatspen/Holmsley Camp during this period?

The Chalice Well Glastonbury, a Short History by Felicite Hardcastle, revised edition 1990. First published in 1963.
Postcard illustrating a painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds of Mrs Carnac (nee Elizabeth Catherine Rivett, 1751-1780) who married Brigadier-General John Carnac (1716-1800) in 1769, this being his second marriage. John Carnac was Lord of Burley Manor from 1776-1780.
She died in India aged 28, possibly of cholera.
It appears unlikely that they actually ever lived at the Manor, see: www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rivett-139
Interestingly the card is addressed (date could be 1923) to a Miss Elizabeth Rivett Drake!
- Quite possibly a distant relative of Mrs Carnac (Elizabeth Rivett).
