BURLEY VILLAGE MAGAZINE - Articles from 1994
February P6 MAGAZINE COVER
You will have noticed the change of design on the front cover of last month's magazine, which will be used for the next few years, and it is hoped that you will find the picture pleasing.
It is the policy to change the front cover periodically and, at the end of last year, the Art Club was asked to hold a competition for a new design. There were several good entries and the one chosen is by Lynn Sibley. Congratulations to Lynn and thanks to those who took the trouble to enter their designs.
The previous design, which has been used for several years, was by Suzan Houching. Don't worry it is not lost or forgotten. Two copies of each month's magazine are bound annually and one bound volume is stored in the Church Room (for anyone who wishes to review them) and the other is kept in the archives at Winchester.

July P11 TRAFFIC PROBLEMS IN BURLEY
Many readers will know that I have been concerned for some time about traffic problems in the village and the serious hazards these create.
I personally consider the 40m.p.h. through Burley is much too fast and I am receiving an increasing number of complaints about the size of vehicles coming through the village, particularly since the new junction was opened at Picket Post.
Hampshire County Council has agreed to consider the problems of Burley through a Working Party which produced the New Forest Highway Strategy and will also consult the Police. However, they "currently have no evidence that Burley is increasingly used as a rat-run between the A35 and A31", which appears to be the case.
We need to produce evidence to support the case. To achieve this we ideally require a team of people to conduct a survey over, say, a week and so produce actual statistics to illustrate the problem.
Would anyone who can spare an hour or two and be willing to sit in the village to record evidence please telephone me and leave your name and telephone number.
Please help if you can and let's try to protect our village and make it a safer place for all concerned. Many thanks.

July P15 BURLEY VILLAGE
Why do they come to Burley village,
To put in plans to rout and pillage?
Why do they change our natural earth
Which a lot of us have known since birth?
We have such a lovely nature scene.
Why can't it be left as it's always been?
