Sir William Frederick Herschel 1738-1822 (born Hanover, Germany)
Astronomer, musician and composer. Caroline Herschel, his sister and fellow astronomer, collaborated.
He discovered Uranus, and was the first President of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Married widowed Mary Pitt (née Baldwin) in 1788 and they had one child -

Sir John Frederick William Herschel 1792-1871
Married his cousin Margaret Brodie Stewart (1810-1884) in 1829 and had 12 children:-
One son, Prof. Alexander Stewart Herschel (1836-1907) was also a British Astronomer.
Apart from his major contribution to Astronomy Sir John was at the forefront of the invention of Photography in 1839.
Buried in Westminster Abbey next to Charles Darwin.

Astronomer and lecturer. Secretary of the British Astronomical Society 1904-1910.
Married Theresa Selina Clive Bayley and had two children.
Joseph taught Mary Adela Blagg who became one of the first of five
women to be elected as a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1916.
She gave Felicite a copy of her book "Four Fairy Tales" in 1911 with the dedication:
'Félicité Hardcastle With good wishes for her birthday, July 1; from the authoress. 1911'

Felicite moved to Burley with her mother in 1918 after the death of her father in 1917.
She died in 1988 and her ashes are interred at St John the Baptist Church, Burley.
